Latchkey/Walk Proud/Homeowners/Bullet Treatment
Furious World
Basement

Ok I've had this four way split for quite awhile now, and one of the reasons I waited so long to review it is that this comp has continued to grow on me. There are two bands from LA and two from DC on this 4 way split. Let me just start off and say this is what a split release is all about.. You got 2 pairs of bands from the complete other side of the country that put their music on one comp, which instantly increases the amount of kids that are going to hear their stuff times three.

Starting of the split is DC's Latchkey who have been around for years and gone through god knows how many incarnations. They have a chunky clean hardcore sound that gives off a great positive vibe. Don't let the word chunky make you think this is some kind of moshy metal drivel, because this is chunky with a clean melodic sense that makes you want to sing-along. Their songs have lots of time changes which is cool but my only beef is that some of the tunes drag out far too long. "Stool Pigeon" is one of the long ones but Latchkey really glows on this one. They recently got a new drummer and when they played my house they were better than I have ever seen them. Definitely be on the lookout for their upcoming full length, I know I will!

LA's Walk Proud have been around since the 80's and you can tell. They have a late 80's hardcore feel. I can definitely hear a NYHC/warzone influence with some youthcrew shouts going on. This stuff grew on me quite a bit. At first listen I shrugged them off as generic, and although there is nothing groundbreaking about them, after additional listens I found them to be pretty good. "Be Yourself" is definitely the standout track.

DC's Homeowners get the most original on this one hands down. I really don't know any band that sounds like them and that is really refreshing. They take metal, street punk, and hardcore and meld it into their own unique blend of fuck you. The Homeowners have two singers and while this is not too novel of an approach I think they pull it off way better than most. The key is all in the timing, and both of them know exactly when to sing lead and when to give the other guy backup help. Sadly the Homeowners are breaking up but I wouldn't let that stop you from tracking their shit down, because it's that good.

Bullet Treatment (LA) finish off the disc with some fast venomous hardcore. At times this sounds like a more straight forward hardcore version of the Circle Jerks, especially in the vocals. Painful screams put icing on the cake and give the music that much more urgency. Definitely the perfect band to wrap up a CD titled Furious World.

A great comp indeed and for 5 measly dollars I don't see any reason why anyone into hardcore doesn't have this. So hit up Basement records and hear it for yourself.

Furious World

If you’re a fan of fast punk rock and old-school-pre-metallic-influenced hardcore, and you like getting a real bang for your buck, then Furious World the newest release from SoCal’s Basement Records is a CD that you might want to add to your record collection. Featuring a grand total of twenty four tracks, Furious World combines the musical talents of Latchkey, Walk Proud, The Homeowners, and Bullet Treatment, and if you have ever found yourself becoming disillusioned with punk rock, then get ready for a real treat. Two songs into CD opener Latchkey’s four song offering, and mentally I was back in a time when CDs from bands like Agnostic Front were at the forefront of my personal play list. I have always been and will always be a fan of compilation CDs, and in my book, Furious World is on par with compilations such as Hellcat’s Give ‘Em The Boot or Epitaph’s Punk-O-Rama series, (in fact, parts of the FW art design are similar to that used on Punk-O-Rama, vol. 7) simply because you probably don’t own any CDs from Latchkey and Co., and so to you, the tracks on FW might as well be previously unreleased material – and who doesn‘t like new material?    Jeff M. Finally, a four-way comp with balls and diversity. Four bands chugging out old-school hardcore the old-fashioned way. The problem with the new school is that they rehash speed-metal riffs over hardcore drumbeats. All bands here do their own take on the genre, with great success. DC-area band Latchkey deliver early Government Issue-style mayhem with plenty of beef and thought-provoking lyrics. SoCal mainstay Walk Proud deliver high-decibel action with the flavorings of Uniform Choice meets early period Agnostic Front and vocals rants about self-appreciation and unity. Tough stuff, kiddies. East Coast power-pusher The Homeowners deliver just the right amount of crunch with some inspirational and well-crafted, growling vocals. And let us not forget Bullet Treatment. This band is California's best-kept secret, churning out classic punk on past releases, while this time out showing hardcore who the real deal actually is. This release keeps the faith and proves that hardcore doesn't have to be metal to be brutal.

This CD features 2 L.A. bands and 2 D.C. bands. It's suppose to be an east vs. west, punk vs. hardcore style cd. It is a great CD to get if you like any one of these bands. I think Latchkey by themselves would be worth buying their CD, but Bullet Treatment is a fuking phat band (you can read my review on the solo album). The Homeowners caught me by surprise as a really aggressive hardcore style band, the name of the band seems like they would be a straight up punk band but they are far from that. Get this CD people.  JAy@epimag

This is a comp made up of four hardcore bands, two from D.C. and two from L.A. The hardcore is pretty good, but I don’t know about this D.C.-versus-L.A. thing. Before you know it, it’s be Tupac and Biggie all over again. Walk Proud and Bullet Treatment keep in line with LA’s most prominent hardcore outfit Black Flag, even though Bullet Treatment also reminds me of the Casualties. Latch Key sticks close to the usual D.C. style, but the Homeowners sound like they’re drawing more influence from the New York and Boston hardcore scenes than D.C. Wherever they're from, they came up with 24 great hardcore punk tracks, and you can’t beat that with a stick.

24 tracks split between 4 bands - LA’s BULLET TREATMENT and WALK PROUD, and DC’s LATCHKEY and HOMEOWNERS. All specialize in driving, rambunctious hardcore (y’know, of the XXX variety), and do so with a suitable injection of vim, vigor and pissed-offness. (RK)

Various - Furious World
Basement - 2003

With this release from Basement, it's starting to become obvious that the label is trying to get the word out on as many bands as possible - at once. This four-way split features two bands from the Los Angeles area (Bullet Treatment and Walk Proud), and two bands from the D.C. scene (Latchkey and The Homeowners). All four fall roughly into the old-school hardcore punk vein.

Latchkey play a '77-style punk with hardcore overtones, a relatively anthemic effort that's slightly hurt by the distortion and echo the lead vocals constantly run under, but a style good in its own right. Throaty and hoarse, Walk Proud tread mud with their raw and rugged, underproduced quarter of blandness. The Homeowners pick it back up with a dirty, dirty street punk / hardcore hybrid, and dueling vocals, best expressed in the shouting, rambled "Camo Van." The 17th version or something of a band known as Bullet Treatment play simple chords and loops that move around at differing speeds, and resemble 7 Seconds or early Good Riddance.

Band: 4-Way Split
Album: Furious World
Label: Basement Records

I love this split, mainly because it has four of my favorite bands. These
guys are like fucking awesome bands. So this is a 4-way split containing
Bullet Treatment, Walk Proud, The Homeowners, and Latchkey, all amazing punk
rock bands.

What I truly love about this split is all the music fits in with each other
so when you make the transition from one band to another your still in the
mosh pit mood. This is amazingly punk rock that I’m going to obsess about
and talk about with everyone for over a month’s time. How can you not love
Punk Rock and Anarchy ! Honestly !

This split is seriously badass. You have to check it out because if you don’t
your freaken sorry. Yeah that’s right I said it, this split is just
honestly that great. ::Atari:: -- MODERN PUNK --

Four bands, twenty four tracks = nice ! Two bands are from the DC area and
two are from Cali so we've got an East meets West thing going on. The cover
art gave the first impression that this would be a bad punk compilation but
luckily it was more meat and potatoes than just cheese. The four bands are
Latchkey who sounded like a "Fat Wreckords" kind of band, Walk Pround who
reminded me of The Exploited with speedy riffs and pissed vocals, The
Homeowners who played solid H/C and provide us with excellent advice in the
song Strike First ("strike first, laugh last") and last but not least…
Bullet Treatment who sounded like The Homeowners and do a killer Adolescents
cover (L.A. Girl). If you come across this comp, check it out. For the
record, both coasts held their own.

V/A - Furious World CD
(Basement Records)

This 4 split punk-rock album with bands Latchkey and the Homeowners from LA and Walk Proud & Bullet Treatment from DC is not so bad at all. Because of the different style of punk-rock songs. The album is split up per coast. Thirty minutes per coast and 15 minutes per band. Latchkey is the first band on this album with 4 pure punk-rock songs. The next 4 songs by Walk Proud are more old school punk fashioned. The Homeowners have 7 songs with the sound of beer drinking garage-punk. Bullet Treatment with the last 8 songs of this album is fast and rough and certainly a great band to end this album. I think this is a great initiative of Basement Records to promote the punk-rock bands in America. If you want to know more, click on this link http://www.basementrecords.net.
